August Favorites! 2016 Edition

I can’t believe it’s already September! Time really does fly! Not going to lie, my August was pretty uneventful. Let’s see what happened this month? I watched the olympics, like the rest of the world. I personally enjoyed watching swimming, gymnastics, water polo, and volleyball. Oh, my computer broke, which was fun so I couldn’t do much on the blog this month. Other than that, I spent the majority of my time working or at my internship. I definitely had to entertain myself a lot this month since I had a lot of free time on my hands.

Now that my monthly recap is done, it’s time to get into my favorites for the month of August! Get excited!

August Favorites

Food/Drink

  • Bob’s Redmill Gluten Free Pancake Mix-Oh my gosh you guys! These are literally the best gluten-free pancakes I’ve ever had! You can’t even tell they are gluten free, in fact, I think they taste better than regular pancakes! They are so fluffy and delicious! You should definitely try them out if you have the chance.

  • Gluten Free Margarita Pizza– I’ve literally eaten this pizza five times this month…okay maybe not quite five times. I can honestly say that at this point I would rather make this pizza than go out and buy pizza. It’s just so GOOD!! If you haven’t tried it yet you totally should.

  • Tea– This month I’ve gotten really into drinking tea. Since it’s still summer, I usually drink iced tea during the day and chamomile tea in the evening. Here’s an interesting fact: I always drink unsweetened tea.

Beauty

  • Mayballine Super Stay Better Skin ConcealerThis is literally the best concealer I’ve ever tried! It is heavy duty, so it can easily cover up all my blemishes! Since using this concealer, I’ve gotten into the habit of not even wearing any foundation, the concealer does it all! You should seriously check it out, you won’t regret it!

  • Tea Tree Oil This stuff is amazing! It is such a multi-use product! Not only can it be used it as a spot treatment and cold sore medicine, but it can also be used as a antibacterial mist that you spray on your pillow at night. This stuff really works!

Extras

  • Susana Cresce Let’s Do This Planner I got this planner at the beginning of August and absolutely fell in love with it! It has a monthly calendar, as well as daily pages to help you plan your daily life. The only downfall of this planner is that the monthly calendar is a little small, however since I have small handwriting I have managed to live with it. As of right now, I only use this planner for work and my internship, but that should change once my life becomes a bit busier.

  • Harry Potter Series As I mentioned earlier, I’ve had a lot of free time this month. Instead of sitting around waiting for my computer to be fixed, I decided to reread the Harry Potter series and man is it good! I’m a person who will read books I like over and over again, I can never get enough of them. I feel like now that I’m reading this series again, I’m learning more about the details of the plot that I didn’t know before. If you haven’t read these books, I suggest you read them if you have the time, you won’t regret it!

What’s in My Backpack? 2k16 Edition

Hi all! With summer break coming to a close and school quickly approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to share my backpack essentials with you! There are many great backpacks for you to use, however I personally use the North Face Women’s Jester Backpack. I absolutely love this backpack, it is so comfortable even when carrying a lot of books and has designated sleeve for my laptop! The only drawback to it is that there is not a lot of space to hold multiple textbooks and notebooks, however this may not be a problem if you have time between your classes to go home and switch out your materials.

What's in My Backpack?

  • One of the most important things I keep in my backpack is my laptop. I currently have a MacBook Pro which is about two years old. One thing I love about this laptop is how easy it is to take to school, especially with the laptop sleeve in my backpack! A lot of the time my professors will talk to fast for me to physically write down what they are saying in my notebook, so instead I have found it convenient to use my laptop to take notes instead.

  • Another essential that is in my backpack is my planner! This is so important because it helps me plan out my life and allows me to write down important assignment due dates so that I do not forget.  I definitely recommend everyone have a planner in their backpack! I currently use the Susana Cresce Planner!

  • Although I take notes on my laptop, I still have notebooks for my classes that I take with me. I have found it hard to study off a laptop, so if I have time between classes I will sit down somewhere on campus and copy the notes from my laptop into my notebook.

  • Next I have my pencil case, because you can never have enough writing utensils! 😛
  • I also have post it notes in my backpack because it can be easier to quickly jot down something important on a post it rather than taking the time to take out my planner.

  • An absolute essential in my backpack is my school emergency kit.  In here I keep my daily necessities, such as Q-tips, hair ties, migraine medicine, Kleenex, a Tide To Go stick, oil absorbing sheets, deodorant, and feminine supplies. (Let me know if you want a post on how to create your own School Emergency Kit!)
  • Lastly I have my wallet and keys.

There you go, that’s what I usually have in my backpack on a typical school day. What do you have in your backpack? Let me know in the comments or on twitter!

I’ve decided a great way to get kick off my blogging spree is to share with you my makeup must haves. 1. Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette – I started using this palette about two years ago and absolutely fell in love with it! I’ve always liked the natural eye look on so when I found this palette I thought I’d try it out! It is such a versatile palette, allowing you to make a look for every occasion. If you are in the market for a new eyeshadow palette I suggest you try this one out!
  2. Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner– This is my favorite eyeliner of ALL TIME! I’ve been using it for about three years now and have never looked back! As somebody who has been in the pool quite a bit, it was an absolute must that my eyeliner was water proof. This eyeliner works like a charm, it glides on my eyes so smoothly and just looks so good! It is a gel eyeliner so if you are interested in this product I would suggest buying a quality eyeliner brush as well…I personally use the Tarte Eyeliner Brush.
  3. Benefit Hoola Bronzer– I know, I know, I know… Everybody talks about this bronzer, but what can I say I adore it! I have only been using this bronzer for a few months now, but it works so well! It glides on so smoothly and blends so easily! A little goes a long way with this product. The brush it comes with works pretty well, so I would suggest that if you are on a budget just that brush instead of buying a new one!
  4. L’Oréal True Match Super Blendable Blush in Innocent Flush– This one is for all you lovelies who want to look gorgeous without breaking the bank. This is one of the only blushes I have ever used because I haven’t found a need to try anything else! What I love most about this blush is the color! This product blends very easily staying true to its name. It does have a little shine to it, however I personally like the added dimension on my cheeks. I use this blush with the Real Techniques Blush Brush.
  5. Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara– I LOVE this mascara! I have tried out new mascaras in the past, but always end up coming back to this bad boy! The brush is probably my favorite thing about this mascara because it allows me to reach every eyelash so easily! This mascara adds so much length to my lashes, which is especially helpful since the tips of my eyelashes are blonde! If you are in the market for a new mascara, I definitely recommend you try this one out!

That’s all for my current makeup must haves! If you have any favorites that I should try out please tell me in the comments or tweet me!

p.s. If you have any suggestions for blog posts you’d like me to do either leave it down below or tweet me at vitaminseagf.

How to Study for Finals

Guess what! It’s finals season!!! I don’t know about you, but the thought of finals gives me goosebumps. Those of you in a quarter system are probably thinking ” Haley, you are crazy, finals isn’t until June.” However, us semester system folks have finals rapidly approaching and the panic revolving around finals week is starting to build. Luckily for you, I have a few tips and tricks up my sleeve to make finals week as low stress as possible.

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

  1. Start Studying Early!! Don’t procrastinate and wait until the last possible moment to study, you won’t have enough time to cram a whole semester/quarter’s worth of knowledge into your head. Beginning to study a couple weeks in advance will allow you to space out your studying causing you to stress less and feel more prepared.
  2. Write, Read, and Speak!! What does this mean? One of my best ways to study is by create a study guide and read it out loud to myself or other people. It is important that when you write the study guide rather than typing, because it makes you process the information more than if you simply type it on the computer. Every night before bed read the study guide out loud to yourself, this only takes about 10-15minutes! I have found that by writing, reading, and listening to the information I am allowing myself to process the information in multiple ways.
  3. Sleep! People think that they can pull an all nighter and get an A on the final the next morning, however it is very important to let your brain rest. If you stay up all night then your brain and body are physically and mentally exhausted, no matter how many cups of coffee you may drink.
  4. Realize you did the best you could! I know plenty people who go into the test stressing about the outcome and trying to cram the last 10 minutes before the exam. I have found that stressing before a test does no help me when I take the test. Instead, I tell myself that I did the best I could while studying and whatever happens, happens. By doing so, I manage to keep a level head before the test, rather than psyching myself out.

The important to remember you do not control what is on the test, but you do control how you prepare for it. I hope you find my studying tips and tricks helpful! Good luck on your finals and tests!
